Dubois HS

Dubois, WY

Environmental, Physical, and Anatomy & Physiology classes

Students in three different science classes from Dubois HS were treated to an excellent day of solar observing and unique teaching. The viewing sessions lasted 20-30 minutes of the block schedule 90 minute class period. For the other portion of the class period, WYTEC staff engaged in team teaching activities with Dubois science teacher Brad Highstep. WYTEC provided NASA and space science materials that were related to each of the different science classes. The 9th grade Physical Science class was shown how atomic structure relates to spectroscopic and narrow-band astronomical viewing. The Environmental Science class discussed how the sun influences weather and climate. Anatomy & Physiology students discussed the effects of microgravity on the human body during space flight. They were also shown how the human eyes structure is considered in telescope eyepiece design. Roughly 50 students participated in the unique teaching activities. The mobile classroom was linked to the buildings science classroom via wireless networking technology for remote access of the larger telescopes.
